Montfort Culture et Patrimoine presents :
EXHIBITION OFF - RETROSPECTIVE by RENE SAUTIN
Painter of the Rouen School

Montfort Culture et Patrimoine invites you to the retrospective exhibition of Montfort painter René Sautin, a member of the Ecole de Rouen, on June 29 and 30, 2024 at the Château la Motte in Montfort sur Risle.
René Sautin, born in Montfort sur Risle, embraced the cause of the Impressionists before moving into a style akin to Fauvism, whose modernity reached its apogee in the second half of his work from the 1950s onwards.
He is also a man who is deeply committed to the region in which he was born.
With his friend Henry Dannet from Pont-Audemer, he founded the Ecole de la Risle, whose works were essentially influenced by the course of the eponymous river in the Risle Valley.
After settling in Andelys in the 1920s, he regularly visited Montfort and Pont-Audemer, meeting up with his other friend Robert Duquesne, curator of the Musée Canel, with whom he became involved in local tourism and the preservation of the region's historical heritage.
The retrospective dedicated to René Sautin will chronologically present some forty works by the artist, to coincide with the Impressionist Festival, which will be held throughout the spring-summer season.

In the footsteps of René Sautin
On Sunday June 30 at 9:30 a.m., a five-kilometre hike entitled "In the footsteps of René Sautin" will run in parallel with the exhibition. The hike will take in places around Montfort that the artist visited and painted. An entertaining commentary will illustrate the painter's life and the techniques used in his art.
