BEMBERG FOUNDATION
The Bemberg Foundation is housed in a magnificent private house built in the century
The Fondation Bemberg opened its doors in 1995 in the Hôtel d'Assézat, a magnificent private house built in the 16th century. Georges Bemberg, born in Argentina in 1915 and deceased in 2011, spent a large part of his life acquiring works of art. A rich and varied collection (of about a thousand pieces), which covers several centuries from the turn of the Renaissance to the beginnings of modern art.
The second floor is devoted to the Old Masters. In interiors that have evolved over the centuries, furniture (Boulle chest of drawers, Hache sideboard...) and art objects (silverware, ceramics, enamels...) rub shoulders with paintings by illustrious artists from the French, Flemish and Dutch schools... Among the outstanding pieces are oils on wood by the German artist Lucas Cranach, including a famous Venus and Cupid, pastels by Carriera Rosalba, vedutte by Canaletto and Guardi..
The second floor presents the impressionist and post-impressionist painting among some bronzes including those of Rodin. Among the impressionists (Boudin, Monet, Pissarro, Berthe Morisot...), the cabinet of graphic arts gathers works of Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Forain, Modigliani... then come the pointillists (Cross, Signac...) and the fauvists (Matisse, Derain, Marquet, Dufy, Van Dongen...) Fantin-Latour, Utrillo or Sarah Bernhardt complete the ensemble.
Temporary exhibitions devoted to other private collections, guided tours, and activities for the general public make this museum a must-see in Toulouse.
