Central station inaugurated in 1851, remarkable for its architectural work and its exotic winter garden attracting birds
The central station, world-famous since the terrible attacks of 2004, remains an interesting architectural work to visit. Inaugurated in 1851, it was originally called the Estación de mediodía. Partly destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt according to Alberto Palacio's plans in 1890. The interior is surprising: in the heart of the station, an exotic winter garden - designed by Cesar Manrique - enjoys a year-round microclimate that attracts turtles, small birds and warm-hearted people from Madrid.

gare agréable et bien située pour visiter la ville
gare bien équipée en services, avec des connexions vers toutes les provinces, une belle verrière où prendre une pause. Un endroit sympa et, si on a du temps entre deux trajets pratique pour faire une ballade dans le parc Retiro

belle gare
venu visiter Madrid je me devais de passer voir la gare d'ATOCHA, ébahi par le "jardin d'hiver" avec ses arbres gigantesques seul bémol de la rubalise tout autour interdisant l'accès, peut-être qu'avec les grands départs ? Sinon on peut voir le jardin en prenant de la hauteur en montant au niveau 2. mais cela vaut un détour et un coup d'oeil.

De l'extérieur comme de l'intérieur cete gare est splendide. Le jardin à l'intérieur est époustouflant. Ca donne envie d'attendre un train!
