BUMBA MEU BOI

A sort of Midsummer's Day celebration mixed with the folkloric cult of Bumba-meu-Boi, born in the 18th century from the conflictual relationship between the plantation owners of the Nordeste and their slaves, where a large buffalo is the main character who comes back to life. Music, dance and folkloric presentation in the form of a parade are on the programme of this carnival, where, as in all carnivals, a good dose of satire, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic, and social criticism feeds the festivities. A highly symbolic celebration.
