A church dedicated to the transfiguration of Christ in Thessaloniki.
It is believed to have been founded by monks from Crete (the Vlatades were merchants of precious cloth, or vlati). As the church is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ, its foundation can be linked to the mystical sect of the Hesychastes who thought they were reaching, thanks to an original asceticism, a state of ecstasy allowing them to see the light of Heaven that the apostles saw on Mount Tabor during the Transfiguration. The plan of the church was often modified during its many restorations. Inside, some interesting frescoes.
