The large building 1800 houses 75 rooms and suites. Spacious and cossues, their style blends classicism with contemporary enzymes. Waxed parquet or cream colour carpet, high ceilings, mantling curtains zerbo windows, cozy bedding and bathroom signed by Villeroy & Boch. A living environment where comfort does not give in to aesthetics. Some of the rooms have superb views of the castle or the Gardens of Princes street and until the Forth of Firth. Luxury, quiet and enchanting at the Royal Mile!

Best room of the trip, however our room was adjacent to the laundry room and maybe this room should not be utilized due to constant washing machine noises. Excellent staff

I had some issues with the booking site — it kept trying to kick me out after I signed in when I went to book the room. Support fixed the issue. When finalizing the booking, I entered my flight information and let them know in the additional comments that I was booking an extra night (the night before) so I could get into the room as soon as I arrived. They offer pick up at the airport, and the booking requested the flight information (and specifically said to provide it there for pickup) so I assumed that was all I needed to do to have a car waiting for us. When we arrived at the airport and had our luggage in hand, we walked outside, and I called to ask what kind of vehicle to be looking for. They said they didn’t have a pickup scheduled. I told them I had entered the flight information into the booking and asked what I needed to do. They said they could send a taxi for me. We were already there near the taxi stand so we just got a taxi ourselves so we’d be able to get there more quickly. It was £34. When we arrived, the ladies at the front desk were very nice. They are doing some sort of renovations on our floor, but it didn’t affect our room. We got in the room, and it looks cute. The decor is very classic and modern — very clean looking. We didn’t sleep during the 15 hrs of travel so my husband decided to take a nap while I showered. He fell asleep, and I was getting into the shower when the fire alarms went off. I called to find out what was going on, and the lady said they should have called. That was a little aggravating and anxiety inducing. The shower was clean. The shower head is one that feels like rain, and it had a hand held attachment. The water was very hot — just as the sign warned. It is a tub shower so you have to step over and into it, and it was higher than normal so it was a bit of a climb. I didn’t realize (because I didn’t shut the door to shower) that there was a floor mat on the back of the door. Luckily I saw it before my shower the next morning so it made for a much more comfortable showering experience. The shampoo and conditioner provided made my hair feel lovely and gave it a bit of a catnip smell. There is a towel rack to warm your towel to make you feel warm and toasty when you step out of the shower. They have a makeup mirror. There’s a kitchenette area with a coffee maker, sink, microwave, and dish ware. There’s a small sofa. The windows make the room feel larger. When we got back to the room to go to bed, I took the runner off of the bottom of the bed, and as I was folding it up, I noticed quite a few questionable white stains on the back which made me wonder exactly how clean this room was. It had obviously not been washed in quite some time. I pulled all of the pillows that weren’t in changeable cases off of the bed in case they were equally icky and stuck with the white things that hopefully get washed regularly. The bed was spacious but on the hard side of firm. It could definitely do with a topper to soften it up. The jet lag caused us to crash hard thank goodness. Some great things about the hotel and the room…. It is right in the heart of the old town so you can walk to a lot of the places most tourists want to see. The staff is very sweet. The check out process was quick and easy. They offered to call a taxi or hold our baggage, but we didn’t need those services.

Edited to add (because my TripAdvisor review was responded to) …. I apologize if we missed the signage saying something about the alarm. I did skim the paperwork in the room and don’t remember seeing anything about it. However, I was exhausted so I very well could have missed it. I do think that since we were checking in right before the alarms went off, it would have been nice for someone to mention it.

They didn’t get us in early. I paid for a room the night before we arrived so that we would have access to it as soon as we got to the hotel because I didn’t want to risk not being able to do an early check in.

I have pictures showing the stains on the bed runner, and it was not cleaned prior to our arrival.

Great place to stay fantastic location. I was very impressed by the lobby area, which was spectacularly clean.

If you prefer your bed on the harder side, as in dining table hard then this is the hotel for you. Walking around Edinburgh with a bad back will always bring you joy when despite having had the heating on 24c, you wake up to a freezing room because although the window is secured shut... it has a very bad draft.
One way to help warm up is with a hot shower that leaks under the shower screen and all over the floor and toilet.
The good news, the staff are helpful and accommodating. The location is good for quick access to the usual tourist attractions. Well, if your back has survived.
