This museum, dedicated to the famous animal sculptor François Pompon, houses Gallo-Roman steles.

Born in Saulieu in 1855, sculptor François Pompon is famous for his animal sculptures: he takes as his models the domestic animals he sees in barnyards, as well as wild and exotic animals, which he observes in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. His most famous work is undoubtedly the fabulous White Bear, reproductions of which can be seen at Saulieu and Dijon's Darcy Garden. In this museum dedicated to him, you can see some twenty of his works... but not only! There are also Gallo-Roman stelae, a room dedicated to popular arts and ancient crafts, and another to the gastronomy for which Saulieu has become the symbol with Bernard Loiseau. One room is also a reconstruction of the main room of a traditional Morvan house, where the family shared meals around the hearth. The museum also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions each year. Here's what you'll be able to admire in 2024: from April 3 to June 23, the artist and visual artist Philippe Mayaux will be in the spotlight, presenting his contemporary creations. This year, the Musée François Pompon is changing its habits and offering a temporary exhibition based on culinary art in all its forms. Entitled "Savoureux!", the temporary exhibition highlights the abstract art of the Roubaix-born artist, who follows in the dual footsteps of Picabia and Marcel Duchamp. The works on display straddle the boundary between the kitchen utensil and abstract eroticism.

Dommage...
