The is a sailing school ship of the Belgian Navy, preserved in its original state, classified as a local heritage monument.

The first basin of the marina was used as a permanent mooring for the Mercator, a sail training ship of the Belgian Navy between 1932 and 1960. Since then, it no longer sails, but can be visited. It has been preserved in its original state, but brought up to the standards of the new technologies. As soon as you come ashore, you look for it, that's obvious. It is the pride of the city. Its white silhouette invariably fascinates children. We pose for a photo. A monument of the local heritage. That's why he regularly goes to big sailing events.

Un classique que l'on aime revisiter
Le Mercator est un superbe trois mâts, récemment rénové, qui offre une visite passionnante qui plaira particulièrement aux enfants. Nous l'avons visité sous la pluie et dans le froid, ce qui n'a pas gâché la visite.

LE MERCATOR à Ostende : quel superbe voilier , que j'ai visité maintes et maintes fois dans ma jeunesse ! Près de la gare SNCB , près du port / la "criée" aux poissons , près de la Lange Straat , il domine MAJESTUEUX ...Même si vous n'allez pas le visiter , car il ne fait pas très beau , ou que ce ne sont pas les heures de visites ... allez au moins le VOIR RESPLENDIR . . . que de beaux souvenirs vous aurez , comme moi . . .

Visite très intéressante de ce superbe voilier... On se rend compte comme les marins devaient se sentir à l'étroit sur un bateau (les dimensions peuvent paraître grande de l'extérieur mais être dessus au milieu d'un océan déchaîné c'est autre chose)!

Je l'ai déjà visité 2x mais je compte le refaire prochainement :)
