A neo-classical style residence superbly staged to discover the art of living in the 19th century
The Domaine de Labourdonnais is one of the jewels of Mauritius' heritage. However, the estate is still very much alive and kicking. Discover the art of19th-century living in a superbly staged neo-classical mansion, stroll through ancient orchards and taste local produce, including rums and sweet delicacies. Instagrammable, the old factory chimney is the only one on the island that can be visited (museum). On-site: stores and excellent dining.

We loved the chateau and the beautiful gardens, but there’s no way to access the first floor of the museum whit a pram. The best time to visit is 9am when it’s not too hot, but bring mosquito repellent as these roam supreme any time of the day!

Interesting house, selection of mango trees and tropical plants. Restaurant looked busy. We tasted rums and saw giant tortoises Went on Heritage Open Day so didn't have to pay entry.

Très belle maison de style coloniale, avec un musée permettant de mieux connaitre l'histoire de l'Ile. La dégustation de rhum est très sympathique aussi :)
The best at Mapou and around
