On July 19, 9 Ural owls born in France, including one from Sainte-Croix, were transported from Moselle to the Upper Palatinate forest for reintroduction, accompanied by 14 owls from Germany. The VLAB association has been working for the return of this species to the Upper Palatinate for 8 years. Sainte-Croix, involved in this program, provided birds for the fourth time and has been coordinating the EAZA Ex situ program for this species, supported by the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, for 2 years. Since 2017, 83 owls have been successfully reintroduced, marking the birth of an owl in the wild for the first time in 100 years. Visit Parc Animalier de Sainte-Croix is actively involved in 28 European reintroduction programs, and is piloting 3 of them, including the one for the Ural owl. For more information, click here.
