From March 16 to June 9, 2024, the Musée Bonnard opens its doors to host an exceptional exhibition: "Toulouse-Lautrec tête d'affiche". This remarkable event unveils one of the world's largest private collections of Toulouse-Lautrec prints and posters, offering visitors a fascinating immersion into the artistic world of this 19th-century genius.
The exhibition features some 80 prints covering a vast period of Toulouse-Lautrec's lithographed work, from 1891 to 1899. Among these works, two emblematic paintings, on loan from the Musée d'Orsay, enrich this retrospective and make the exhibition part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of Impressionism.
A seminal artistic encounter between Toulouse-Lautrec and Pierre Bonnard is also highlighted. It was Bonnard who, with his sparkling France-Champagne poster (1891), inspired Toulouse-Lautrec and guided him along the path of the modern poster, positioning him as one of its undisputed masters.
Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the vibrant Paris of the Belle Époque, where Toulouse-Lautrec immortalized iconic figures using bold, modern techniques. Strikingly vivid scenes of nightlife unfold before dazzled viewers. From Moulin Rouge-La Goulue to La Clownesse CHa-U-Kao, each print reveals the electric soul of this effervescent era.
The tour also highlights Toulouse-Lautrec's work in the press, with notable contributions to newspapers such as " Au pied de l'échafaud " and " Le Pendu ". Visitors will have the opportunity to admire unique lithographs, such as those produced for Victor Joze's novel " Reine de joie ".
Iconic and captivating, this exhibition is a genuine invitation to immerse yourself in Toulouse-Lautrec's abundant and audacious universe. An unforgettable artistic experience not to be missed by all art and history lovers.
