In the Massif Jurassiens, peat bogs are real nuggets of exceptional biological diversity, with some 900 species recorded within them. They are protected by the Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels Franche-Comté.
One of them, at Lac des Rouges Truites (6 km from Saint-Laurent en Grandvaux), has a 4 km-long circuit to help you get to know it and discover it in depth. The trail is enhanced by interpretive media and observation devices to help you discover the rhythms and movements of nature. A platform allows you to immerse yourself in the peat bog in the most respectful way possible. It can be used by individuals or families all year round, except when there's snow.
This peat bog has been included in the Ramsar site "Peat bogs and lakes of the Jura mountains", giving it worldwide recognition. It has also been designated a "sensitive natural area" by the Jura Department.
Touring it is also discovering one of the Jura's most magnificent sites, but it's also a fragile wilderness that needs to be respected. In this way, the exceptional heritage of the Franc-Comtois peat bogs can be passed on to future generations.
