The audacity of Avoriaz's first projects, inaugurated in 1967 and imagined as an island suspended above a cliff, came as a huge shock. Here, free, agile buildings interact with the landscape, like bodies inhabiting the mountain and playing with its constraints.

Unclassifiable, Avoriaz is the embodiment of a utopia: that of an extraordinary ski area, a car-free winter sports resort, a futuristic Alpine Metropolis in perfect harmony with the mountains. It was shaped over more than forty years by architect Jacques Labro and his partners, first Jean-Jacques Orzoni and Jean-Marc Roques, then Simon Cloutier.

This exhibition offers a reinterpretation of the "Avoriaz, une architecture de neige" guidebook, co-published by the CAUE de Haute-Savoie and Editions 205 in 2023. Using photographs by François Deladerrière and excerpts from texts by journalist Carine Bel and architect Arnaud Dutheil, a new narrative of Avoriaz takes shape. The photographs on display plunge us into the world of the resort and its architecture, with its total creative freedom. François Deladerrière's vision expresses his sense of place, imperceptible impressions of atmosphere, all those intangible things that make Avoriaz so special.
