The Hopperstad wooden standing church was built in 1130. It is, after the Urnes (or Ornes) church, which dates from 1070, the oldest standing wooden church in the country (28 are preserved to this day). After a long period of neglect, it was restored in 1880, with an exterior gallery and ridge turret clearly inspired by the standing wooden church of Borgund (1180)
