SPIELZEUGMUSEUM (TOY MUSEUM)
In a magnificent 17th century residence, where the mayor of Basel, Johann Rudolf Wettstein, used to come on holiday, you will discover the world of toys, from the beginnings of the German company Steiff in 1879 with elephant plush, to the doll of the 1950s... The 17 magnificent pieces, representing a total of 460 m² of exhibition space, constitute an ideal setting to host one of the most important collections of European toys. The oldest toys on display date from the late 18th century and were found in Wettstein's house: they are shadow theatre puppets. In the same house, you will also find temporary exhibitions on the toy as well as two other museums that are worth a look: the Riehen village museum traces the daily life in the village in the 1900s, and the Musée de la Vigne underlines the importance of the vineyard in the village's history.
