PARC DU JURA VAUDOIS
Jura Park is composed of five geographical entities: Gorges and valleys of the Orbe and Nozon, High Chain of Jura, Pied du Jura, Massif du Risoud and Vallée de Joux. This park, characterized by limestone soil, protects and values dry grasslands and wetlands. In a few figures and information it is:
40% of the canton's dry grasslands and pastures (IPPS).
58% of high-level marshes of national importance (MHM).
25% of the small marshes of national importance in the canton (IBM).
59 nature reserves.
The largest forest massif in one holding of Switzerland (Grand Risoud).
The highest stocking density in Switzerland.
Several unique species in Europe (outside Scandinavia).
The largest colony of ants in Europe.
The Noirmont Franc District.
250 kilometers of dry stone walls.
A book devoted to the park was released in 2015. It was signed by Anne-Lise Vullioud and Vincent Maendly who surveyed the Jura Vaudois to meet people and places to present them as narratives in an illustrated book. It can be ordered on the park's website.
