Landes delicacies

To extend the pleasure of your stay in the Landes region, what better way than with delicious local specialties sourced directly from a producer!
Duck comes to mind, in all its forms: foie gras, gizzards, manchons, confits, magrets... Directly from Delpeyrat, Lafitte or Duperier, on Landes farms or at the marché au gras, they can be vacuum-packed or canned.
Lovers of iodized dishes will find Hossegor oysters at Les Halles or directly from local oyster-farmers by the lake. Oysters from the Arcachon basin can be found in Biscarrosse. Did you know that the Landes region is home to salmon producers? Salmon swims up all the rivers in the region, but it is in the Adour that it breeds most. Smoked the old-fashioned way or in ventrèche, you can bring some home from the Maison Barthouil store in Peyrehorade.
For a sweet souvenir, the Landes pastis is the one to bring back! For breakfast, dessert or a snack, this deliciously moist cake with its delicate orange blossom fragrance will remind you of the sweetness of the Landes region. Why not also take the opportunity to bring back a tourtière landaise or some madeleines from Dax?
Finally, let's not forget the region's emblematic producers: winemakers and armagnac makers! France's oldest eau-de-vie, visit Bas-Armagnac, near Labastide-d'Armagnac and Mont-de-Marsan, to unearth an exceptional bottle. You'll also find Floc de Gascogne, a local aperitif blending armagnac and fresh grape juice. For a delicious local wine, find Tursan wine directly from the Cave des Vignerons de Tursan cooperative (near the Geaune vineyard, or in one of the retail outlets). Other Landes PGI wines to discover include vins des sables de l'océan, vins de Chalosse and vins du Bas-Armagnac.
For an original gift, you can also opt for Landes craft beers (Kanaha Beer in Biscarosse, Brasserie Cath' in Capbreton and their organic beers, Brasserie naturelle des Landes, Brasserie de Lugazaut, Rosny Beer in Seignosse...) and even very good local spirits at Distillerie Havion in Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains or Gin 40 in Hossegor.

A made-to-measure surfboard

We bet it won't fit in your suitcase... but it will fit under your arm or in your car! Surf sport enthusiasts are bound to be tempted by a surfboard made by hand (" shapée ") in the emblematic surfing region! Enthusiasts have set up their artisanal workshop from Biscarrosse to Capbreton, just a few kilometers from the waves, to test them out of course! These shapers, as they're called, are self-employed or sell their boards - sometimes real works of art! - in their own stores and under their own brand names. Take a trip to the Pédebert zone in Soorts-Hossegor, to Chipiron or Surfin Estate, for example.

Samadet earthenware

For collectors and lovers of fine works of art, visit the cradle of earthenware. Located 30 km south of Mont-de-Marsan, the village of Samadet is steeped in history. Here, from 1732 to 1830, the village was occupied by the royal earthenware factory, which enjoyed a royal privilege to hand-make earthenware with a multitude of ornaments: blue cameos, floral decorations, chinoiseries... Today, the little Landes town welcomes the curious and art history enthusiasts, interested in the Musée Départemental de la Faïence et d'Art de la Table, which showcases this century-old art form and maintains Samadet's reputation thanks to its more than 300 exceptional works. Stop by Muriel's workshop for the full experience, where earthenware is made in the tradition of the 18th-century Manufacture Royale. There's also a permanent exhibition and, of course, a pretty little boutique.

100% Landes decor

Why not take a piece of the Landes region home with you, and pick up a beautiful decorative creation from one of the many craftsmen and designers in the region? Whether you're looking for a cool decoration or an original gift, you're bound to find that little something that makes all the difference. We're thinking in particular of the famous neo-vintage travel illustrations from Marcel Travel Posters, which can be purchased directly from the factory in the Pédebert zone in Hossegor, in one of the many Marcel boutiques in the region or in many of the department's decorating boutiques. To keep up with the ocean, Ocean Clock has created a tide clock that lets you see the state of the tide at a glance. Its factory is located right next to Marcel Travel Poster's in the Pédebert area. Near Mimizan, you're sure to find a gift idea at Loopita, designer and manufacturer of home decoration and organization accessories. In Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse, Nicolas brings together craftsmanship and design to create his brand Oèst, recycled sails transformed into contemporary decorative objects. You can order beautiful lighting fixtures, bags, cushions and numerous accessories made from boat and windsurf sails salvaged from the Atlantic coast.
You can also visit Woodstache's workshop in Capbreton. This Landes-based brand draws its inspiration from the world of gliding and the Franco-American spirit of travel to create handmade objects in ecological wood: phone covers, pictures, clocks, and numerous accessories for everyday use.
For pretty decorations made from driftwood salvaged from the beaches of the Landes region, head to Art et Océan in Mont-de-Marsan, a boutique offering a wide range of objects (mirrors, pictures, lamps...) made from this natural resource.
Finally, the textile company Artiga (factory outlet based in Magescq), is instantly recognizable thanks to its original fabrics and Basque canvases. You'll find colorful items and superb gift ideas, from table linens to fashion and home accessories, not to mention fabrics by the meter, all certified Origine France Garantie and bearing the Sud Terre Textiles label.

Not forgetting...

Famous brands created in the Landes: Pull-in underpants (created in Hossegor in the 2000s), the Southwest textile brand also created in Hossegor, and the famous Pyrenex down jacket and bedding brand, based in St Severs, south of Mont-de-Marsan.

Eau thermale de Saubusse, the brand of the Saubusse resort, known for its mineral waters rich in trace elements. Thermal water is used to make misting products, scrubs, face creams, shower gels, body milks, etc

Espadrilles, traditionally made in the Basque and Béarn regions. The Maison de l'Espadrille, in Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains, is a 100% Landes-based workshop.

The sublime creations of Cam&Co in Seignosse, everyday objects, jewelry and colorful one-offs created from recycled resin - originally used to varnish a surfboard.

Sculptures and furniture by Mindus in Seignosse, created by a passionate and creative craftsman offering industrial-style decorative objects made from recycled materials. Many of his creations can be found in local restaurants.
