The Day of Coming of Age is a public holiday celebrating young Japanese people who have just turned twenty - the age of majority (seijin) in Japan - or will come of age before April 1 of the current year. They are invited to a ceremony organized by the town hall of their place of residence. In the streets, the young women dress in magnificent ceremonial kimonos (furisode) and the young men in black suits. It is a very important celebration for young people whose social responsibility increases at that age.
