A country to walk through
Lovers of trails, paths, spaces, undergrowth... the Lot-et-Garonne is made for you. With its 438 hiking trails, hikers are spoiled for choice and can happily theme their circuit between historical routes, through vineyards or around lakes... everything is gathered to discover the richness and the geographical and cultural variety of the country. The differences in altitude are of all kinds and the distances vary to offer the possibility of travelling through the country by choosing the appropriate difficulty.
The Lot-et-Garonne is a land of geological contrasts and differences in altitude, with steep paths, extensive forests and other natural areas that allow for the organization of natural sports competitions such as trails and raids, which are becoming more and more popular in the region. You can test your abilities during sport and nature weekends organized in the south of the department or further north and discover the region in a sporting way.
A country to cycle through
The Canal des Deux Mers, the Lot Valley, the Baïse Valley cycle route and the Scandibérique, four major routes that come together in Lot-et-Garonne, making it an ideal catalyst for green tourism. Between the Canal des Deux Mers and its locks and bastides, or the cycle route to discover Gascony, Lot-et-Garonne by bike offers a concentrate of its riches. A gentle adventure along the main canals of the south-west goes without saying, but the region is also a great destination for lovers of winding escapades when you count a few mountain bike routes with more or less marked accents, whether in Prayssas for greater difficulty, or in Lacépède for more ease. The paths are marked according to the route and the difficulty, so there is no reason to be taken by surprise by the roughness of the climbs or the length of the trails.
The horse: another way to discover
Amateur or more experienced riders will find plenty of opportunities to ride on the moors or Landes de Gascogne, more precisely with the numerous riding centres scattered all over the area and offering rides of varying degrees of difficulty. From the surroundings of Duras to the foothills of the Gers via the Landes forest of Casteljaloux, there are all kinds of landscapes to be admired on horseback with the guides as a compass and who guide the riders in these itinerant rides
The Lot-et-Garonne is not short of horse races either. There are several racecourses in the area. Le Passage d'Agen, for example, is home to the Garenne racecourse, which can be used by both trotting and galloping horses. Further north, in the heart of the Bastide country, Villeréal also has a horse-racing site and it is possible to attend races among passionate turf enthusiasts.
Water sports and aquatic activities
As far as water sports are concerned, we can say that the offer is at the top level! The Lot, the Garonne canal but also the Baïse, the Lot-et-Garonne is also lived on the water and gives a clear definition of the soft adventure. Whether you stroll on a barge or go canoeing, once again, the territory is distinguished by its diversity. Boat trips form a large part of the summer tourist offer and some towns have made a specialty of it, like Castelmoron for holidaymakers on the banks of the Lot or Le Mas d'Agen and Buzet sur Baïse for those who love the gentle course of the Canal des Deux Mers. The Temple sur Lot base is a jewel of a sports complex which mainly welcomes high level teams for training courses, preparations before the Olympic Games or large scale sports events.
On the aquatic side, lakes are also present and developed for summer activities like Casteljaloux and the leisure base of Clarens lake, a real multi-faceted leisure center, it is not surprising that this site hosts triathlon competitions. For the fans of board sports, Damazan with the lake of Moulineau remains the place of fun and speed where one can devote oneself to the activities in vogue such as the water ski lift and this, whether one is a beginner or an adept of modules of all kinds.
A country where we play
Whether you prefer nature, attractions or animals, there is plenty to choose from in Lot-et-Garonne, whether you are in Guyenne, Albret or Agenais. There are many sites of accrobranche type courses and they will delight both the young and the old. Des-Chênes-Toi aventure in Sainte Colombe de Duras or Parc-En-Ciel in Lacapelle-Biron remain references in this field as well as Cap Cauderoue in Barbaste which could easily be described as a leisure complex with tree climbing, laser game, archery or even pedal go-kart..
Families who love amusement parks will be delighted with Walygator Sud-Ouest and Aqualand located in Roquefort on the outskirts of Agen. The proposals of these well known sites go from rather quiet "family" attractions to more thrilling activities to spend a relaxing day where only pleasure will be the key word
Thermalism, a reborn activity
The waters with medicinal virtues are not legion in Lot-et-Garonne but Casteljaloux is historically a spa town whose reputation of its sulphurous and ferruginous waters earned it the name of Casteljaloux-les-Bains in the 19th century. If this activity faded away for a long time, the spa industry has recently resumed in this town of the Landes de Gascogne whose thermal vocation is registered in the nomenclature of medical acts in rheumatology by the social security. Like all the thermal spas, Casteljaloux benefits from a natural attraction, and the related businesses such as quality restaurants or casinos are not absent, quite the contrary.
