ECOLODGE KAWAPI
The Kapawi Écolodge was built according to the achuar architecture.
It can accommodate up to 50 people in 20 double or triple rooms. The 22 palm roof huts are organized around a lagoon in the forest. Meals are a mixture of international and Ecuadorian cuisine.
The lodge is exemplary in eco-tourism. Reception and activities must have a minimum environmental impact and through this project, all waste recycling systems and the preservation of ecological zones are implemented.
Proposed activities. Multiple activities are proposed: visit of the communities, guided walks in the forest, observations of birds and caïmans, navigation in canoe.
Conservation - Education. This 5 000 km 2 reserve preserves the rain rainforest and its many inhabitants.
Minimizing the impact
The lodge was built on stilts to limit the impact of constructions on flora. Tap water is completely purified by sand filtration and UV treatment. Electricity is supplied through a hybrid solar energy system and a diesel generator. The 64 solar panels cover 80% of the lodge's energy needs. The lodge is not illuminated during the night to change the behaviour of nocturnal fauna.
Local population. The Kapawi project was initiated in 1993 in partnership with the FINAE (Federation of Indigenous People's Federation of Ecuador). In 2011, the entire tourist activity will be delegated to the Achuar people. A shop sells crafts produced by the community.
