This tourism project was put in place by Fundación para la Sobrevivencia del Pueblo Cofán (Foundation for the Survival of the Cofán People). Tourism is not the primary objective of this NGO, but it carries out circuits on demand. The Cofán community is one of the oldest cultures in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
With a territory of over 10 000 ha of virgin forest, the Locale Locale local community, near the Aguario River, strives to protect its natural resources. The tourist activity takes place mainly in Zabalo, a Cofán community located in the Faunistique Réserve reserve. The camp was built with local materials.
Proposed activities. Excursions in the forest, discovery of local fauna and flora, canoeing tours.
Minimizing impact. The foundation for the survival of the Cofán people aims to protect the nature and living environment of the population, so all activities are respectful of the environment. The number of participants in turn is limited to 15 persons.
Local population. All people who work in this tourism project are indigenous Cofán; so the benefits go directly to the community.
