HUAORANI ECOLODGE
Of all indigenous peoples of Ecuador, the Huaoranis are the least affected by external influences. They had contact with the missionaries only from 1956 onwards. Currently, their territory is threatened by oil exploitation with numerous surveys. The Huaorani people have 2 700 individuals left in a territory of 680 000 ha.
Located along the river Shiripuno 45 min from the village, the camp is managed by the Communauté'ono community. The lodge, built with local woods, is in total harmony with nature and can accommodate up to 10 people in 5 rooms.
Proposed activities. Forest excursions, discovery of local fauna and flora, waterfalls visits. Guides guides always accompany visitors.
Minimizing impact. Using biodegradable products for daily cleaning, lighting is made from solar energy which also feeds the refrigerator and the water pump. Recyclable and harmless waste is treated in advance in a biological filter before being discharged into the river. The lodge provides soap visitors and biodegradable shampoo.
Local population. Tourism money is paid to the president of the community who distributes it equitably to the members. The construction of a laundry is in project to increase the number of jobs.
