Écolodge is located in the southern part of the island of the Sun (Isla del Sol, the largest island in the lake) on Lake Titicaca, close to the Indigène indigenous community of the Estancia. La Estancia Hostel consists of 15 cabins with a total capacity of 33 people.
The catering served is composed of local and international menus. Meals are made up of fish caught in the region and products grown on Altiplano such as corn, quinua, papa, haba or tarwi.
Proposed activities. Hiking, bird sightings and discovery of Inca ruins and Aymar culture (interesting architectural works of the pre-Columbian period).
Minimizing impacts. In order not to affect the environment, Estancia has set up a waste recycling and waste sorting system. Organic solid waste is converted into compost, plastics and (inorganic) boxes are brought to the city of Copacabana and La Paz.
Treatment of residual waters is carried out three times, the last water being used for the gardens. Water is heated with solar energy.
Local population. The Estancia is a project that works only with the community of La Isla del Sol, from which its name originates. In a direct way, the hostel employs 2 people and up to 20 seasonal people, all native of the island and grouped into small businesses that sell their services (water, rental boots for lake excursions, kitchen supplies, etc.). The premises offer visitors the opportunity to discover their crafts and their music. A tax per visitor is paid to the local community.
