FÊTE DU KANKOURANG
Go there and contact
Intriguing and disconcerting, the feast of Kankouran, this jinn coming out of the forest cut by hand, promises a lot of thrills!
According to Mandingo traditions, the Kankourang is a djinn who is a protector against evil spirits, covered with red bark and armed with a cutlass in each hand, who comes out of the sacred forest to protect young boys during their circumcision or to settle extreme cases of disputes. It is a spirit that is feared by the inhabitants and it is best not to arouse its anger by looking it in the eyes. A feast in his honour is organized every year, following the example of the Kumpo, one of the traditional Diola figures.
