In various villages along the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts of Honduras, the arrival of the first Garífunas in 1797 is commemorated through the organization of traditional celebrations.

April is the month in which the Garífuna celebrate their African heritage, presence, resistance, struggle, identity and culture. Their dances, their colorful clothes and the contributions they have made to the nation show just how proud they are to belong to this ethnic group.
