October 10, 1760 is commemorated as the date on which the Auca peace treaty was signed between the planter-settler organization and the N'djuka people. However, this day has only been a public holiday since 2011. Maroon Day is mainly organized in inland villages and in Paramaribo, in places such as the Palmentuin, by the descendants of the Maroons - the Loweman - who are dressed in colorful pangi to celebrate freedom for all in Suriname.
