All Little Indias are decked out in their brightest garlands to honor the triumph of light over darkness.
The Deepavali, also called Divali, is a major festival in the Hindu world, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, wisdom over ignorance. Deepavali commemorates Rama's return to Ayodhya. Its inhabitants had then lit the streets, where the king passed by, with lamps dīp. The tradition is perpetuated and the streets of all Little India in Malaysia and Singapore are adorned with flashing light bulbs. As for the inhabitants, they burn oil lamps in their houses and put on new clothes for the occasion.
