Every year in October, the Tour du Teche 135 is held, a race for canoes, kayaks, pirogues (traditional Cajun boats) and paddleboards. It stretches over 135 miles along Bayou Teche between Port Barre and Berwick, with some portions on Bayou Courtableau and the Atchafalaya River. The whole trip lasts three days and starts on the first Friday of October. It is also possible to do only some sections of the course. Other races are organized during the year (see website for dates and locations).
