GUMBOOT DAY

Who hasn't dreamed of taking part in a rubber boot throwing contest? We had to come to NZ for that!
It doesn't get much more typically New Zealand than Taihape's Gumboot Day. Taihape, a small, unnamed town, became the self-proclaimed "Gumboot Capital of the World" after a comedian dressed one of his characters - a farmer from Taihape - in rubber boots (the classic image of the country kiwi). Since 1985, Taihape has celebrated Gumboot Day every Easter Tuesday. We can only applaud their commitment! The main event? A rubber boot throwing contest, of course.
