Timetable

Maó and Ciutadella, like all large towns, offer a wide choice of boutiques and department stores (on the outskirts of town). While the latter are generally open non-stop from 10am to 10pm, the smaller shops in Menorca's towns and villages follow Spanish opening hours, from 9/10am to 2pm, then from 3/16pm to 8/21pm.

Budget & Tips

In Menorca, you can find shoes, leather goods, pearls, handicrafts and products of local industry at relatively attractive prices. Some of Spain's best-known brands, such as Pons Quintana, Ria, Mibo and Jaime Mascaró, are still worth buying, as their factories or headquarters are located on the island. Xoriguer gin, Biniarbolla liqueurs, certain wines and olive oils, as well as Mahón-Menorca cheese, also made on the island, are delicious local products at good prices!

Sales

In the Balearic Islands, as in the rest of Spain, sales last twice two months: the winter sales take place from early January to early March, and the summer sales from early July to early September.

What's very local

All over the island, you'll find stores specializing in local food products. Some supermarkets also offer local produce at fair prices. Tourist traps

As in most countries, many souvenirs are unfortunately made in Asia. Many stores sell fake souvenirs. Some market stalls also offer products that are sometimes excessively expensive compared to their real value! So make sure you buy local and authentic to encourage the local economy.
