THE CAVES OF THE CAUSSES

Thanks to the rich heritage of natural phenomena of several millions of years, the Causses and Cevennes are dotted with caves. They would be rooted in the time of the dinosaurs: during Mesozoic, that is, the secondary age (-251 to -65 million years before our age), the sea would have progressed on the massif, and thus deposited a multitude of sediments (limestone, marnes, etc.) over several hundred metres high. With the formation of the Pyrenees and the Alps in Tertiary age, these large sediment deposits would have been attacked over time by erosion, and rivers far larger than those of today would have dug large gorges separating the highlands: the causses. All the attraction of the Causses is that they offer a journey in the past tens of millions of years and flood them with calm more than soothing. In caves, stalagmites and natural galleries, they discover for the pleasure of all, in damp environments however. Discover the cave of Aven Armand, Dargilan, Hurt de Bramabiau and its underground river.
