Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie
Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie is the capital of pottery. Since the 14th century, this village has attracted potters and ceramists from the surrounding area. As you wander through the narrow streets of the medieval village, warm tones, from ochre to red or green clay, dominate. Observe the street signs, made by a ceramist, which form an open-air work of art. The know-how of earthenware and all the techniques are perpetuated in Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie: master craftsmen, potters' workshops and the Museum of Mediterranean Pottery celebrate the work of the earth. A must-see stop on your journey. Start from the Place du Marché
At the level of "La Jasse", take the path on your right in the direction of Vallabrix. Continue on the "Chemin de Masmolene" then "Route de Vallabrix".
La Capelle and Masmolène
This commune is made up of the meeting of two villages about 800 m apart. This explains the presence of two churches on the communal territory! La Capelle, with its 11th century feudal castle, was the summer residence of the Bishops of Uzès. To the north of the village, a windmill, restored in 2011, has since found its wings: a picnic area is installed there, a welcome break to admire the landscape. Masmolène still has witnesses of its medieval past: the keep of the lord Adélard, and its Romanesque chapel of the 11th century, called the chapel of the Tower, located at the highest point of the town. Now restored, the chapel is very popular and worth a visit.
Pond of La Capelle
Take the D219 and turn left on the Chemin de l'étang. You are in the presence of a unique place: a natural pond in the heart of the garrigue. The pond of La Capelle and Masmolène is the result of geological activity and is therefore rich in both flora and fauna. It is indeed possible to meet here plant and animal species which one sees only in Camargue. This exceptional character has led to its being classified as a Natura 2000 protected area. The preservation of biodiversity and its development are thus at the center of all attention. The municipality of La Capelle and Masmolène has set up an interpretation trail around the pond, as well as a 100m long wooden pontoon, in order to encourage the observation of these various natural environments. You will thus meet reeds but also white willows and poplars which like to live with their feet in the water. In terms of fauna, it is the birds that you will see and hear first: 155 species provide a fabulous show throughout the seasons. Note also the presence of 8 species of amphibians including the famous crested newt. A beautiful place to savour before resuming your journey. Take the D219 "Route d'Uzès". When you arrive at "Tendre", turn right on the road (be careful with the crossing of the D982). Then take the D4 on the right towards Flaux, and follow the "Route de Flaux" towards Saint-Quentin-La-Poterie by the D405 to return to the starting point.
