Chapel of Lachamp
From Rochessadoule, follow the direction of "Col de Trélys" passing by "La Passerelle du Rieusset", "Le Pialet" and "Le Ramier et Frayssinet" (Be careful, this itinerary is common with the red and white marking of the GR®44B).
At the Col de Trélys, it is possible to go back and forth to the dolmen located on the left side of the mountain: installed on the side of the mountain, the dolmen rises on its impressive tumulus made of sandstone blocks. Do not miss the site of the Lachamp chapel. Throned in an environment of heather and thyme, Notre-Dame de Lachamp welcomes the visitor by offering a 360 ° view on the Cevennes, the mountains of Vivarais, the valley of the Cèze and the first alpine escarpments. Picnic tables are welcoming at mealtime! The panoramas
Cross this very diversified vegetation, between holm oaks and maritime pines, riparian forests and Cevennes low walls. At various points along the way, the landscape reveals itself, like a theatrical curtain opening on the stage: before your eyes, views of the castles of Molières-sur-Cèze and Aujac.
The castle of Montalet, in Molières-sur-Cèze, is a jewel of the 11th and 13th centuries. Culminating at 275 m, its visit is worthwhile! Proudly standing on its rocky spur, the castle is the most imposing seigniorial complex in the upper Cèze valley. Covering an area of one hectare, the castle was once surrounded by ramparts flanked by 7 towers. Still revealing today the magnificence of its medieval architecture, the castle of Montalet is open all year round, every Sunday (Information: 04 66 24 19 79).
Take the time to observe this sentinel of the Cevennes in its preserved setting in the commune of Aujac. The castle of Cheylard d'Aujac, at 600 m altitude, dominates the departments of Gard, Lozère and Ardèche. A perfect example of the evolution of castle architecture, the Cévennes castle highlights its medieval past with its imposing square tower, and the Renaissance with its more graceful round tower. Inhabited without interruption since the Middle Ages, the castle houses a medieval hamlet consisting of a farm, a dovecote, a sheepfold, a chestnut drying shed and a chapel. Open during the summer (06 86 66 20 66).
Continue to the "Col des quatre Chemins" via "Les Cognasses". From here, leave the GR®44B to go down to the right towards Peyremale until the post marked "Les Fourches", then turn right to join the "Col de Malpertus" via "Les Selves", from where you can reach "La Pinède".
Through this forest of scented Scots pine, chestnut trees, heather and wild flowers, you will then find the red and white markings of the GR®44B to return to Rochessadoule through "La Rompude". At this place, you can go up to the "Chapelle Saint-Laurent", very beautiful ruin of the old Benedictine monastery. Go back on your way following the markers "Patte d'Oie du Ronc Rouge", "Arbousset", "La Font" to arrive at the town hall of Rochessoulade.
