MC DONALD AIRFIELD

Still on the road to Pine Creek, about 20 km from this city, another World War II aircraft ground abandoned at the end of conflicts. 8 km from the Stuart Highway, we arrive at the remains of the 2 000 m long air runway by a still asphalted road. The base successively inhabited several squadrons, including B 25 Mitchells.
With the risk of finding the road in very poor condition, or even impractical, it can be continued to reach 10 km later the Stuart Highay towards Pine Creek.
Between the Stuart Highway and Pine Creek recovery, two roadhouses (HAYES CREEK ROADHOUSE Tel (08) 8978 2430 and EMERALD SPRINGS ROADHOUSE Tel (08) 8978 2320). In the first roadhouse, you can see outside the photos of the air base of Mc Donald Airfield during the tour of John Waynes during World War II.
