Care made in Lozere
Lozère is a nature destination par excellence. From Aubrac to Margeride, from the Causses and Cévennes to Mont Lozère, from the Gorges du Tarn to the Vallée du Lot, the region is rich in grandiose landscapes and incredibly well-preserved flora. Abundant natural resources that certain beauty and well-being players have chosen to exploit and sublimate. Organic and plant-based cosmetics made in Lozère are particularly plentiful. In La Tieule, Essenciagua harvests from within a 150-kilometer radius of its distillery to produce essential oils and hydrolats that soothe physical aches and pains as well as the blues of the soul. In Sainte-Croix-Vallée-Française, the Plantes des Cévennes company transforms aromatic and medicinal plants into creams, balms, deodorants, care oils and perfumes... While Apimousse, in Servières, concentrates on the manufacture of glycerine-rich superfatted soaps, rich in honey and beeswax from the farm's own bees. All these products, on their own or in a box, and their pleasant fragrances, are sure to remind you of your Lozère days in the fresh air, once you've returned home.
Gastronomy
Lozère's gastronomy is as varied as its landscapes. Influenced by the Auvergne region and its mountains, the forests of the Cévennes and its Mediterranean neighbors, the département boasts a wide range of exceptional products, which are presented in greater detail elsewhere in these pages. Some producers, however, stray from traditional local paths to offer more singular treats. In Marvejols, Kokolo et Zaza is an artisanal cookie factory that makes healthy - and good! - flavored with good sense and authenticity: shortbread, madeleines, aperitif cakes, croquants... Some are vegan or gluten-free. In Mende, Madre e Hija began production in 2021 of its truffées d'énergie: surprisingly tasty vegan bites with no added sugar, which slip easily into a hiker's backpack.
Beers
The Lozère region may not be known for its vineyards, but it is home to a large number of breweries. We're particularly fond of Brasseurs de la Jonte, in Gatuzières, whose potions contain no colorants or preservatives. Each of their names hides a story or anecdote linked to the region or the brewing tradition. In Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, Brasserie de la Naine and its organic beers are well worth a visit and a trip to the store, to bring back a nice souvenir from Lozère for friends and family. White, blond, amber, redhead, brown and even alcohol-free, there's a beer to suit every color and palate.
