It is simply the celebration of coffee, the black gold of Costa Rica! The festivities take place mainly in the Central Valley.
During the coffee harvest, which is done by hand, several festivities are organized to celebrate el grano de oro. The celebrations take place especially in the region of the central valley where the coffee pickers and the tourists and all the others mix for the occasion. The coffee is obviously honored through music, dance, a coffee picking contest where the winners receive prizes, the election of the "Queen of Coffee" and other religious ceremonies. Throughout the celebration, the producers offer tastings of their coffee.
