Vietnam is an authoritarian country and not known for its wild nights. But with the influx of tourists, things are gradually changing. In Hanoi, evenings can now be extended, at least in some establishments. Officially, a curfew is still in force, and at 12:30 a.m., everyone is expected to return to the arms of Morpheus. The choice of establishments is very limited, and party-goers are discreet when they transgress the midnight permission.
Vietnamese nights are still very affordable. However, more luxurious establishments are springing up, with relatively high prices. Tourist clientele are not necessarily welcome.
Cabs are always available at any time of night.
The legal age for buying and consuming alcohol in Vietnam is 18. In practice, however, many establishments do not respect this law...
In the rare discotheques, the security service is omnipresent and rather aggressive. The atmosphere is not always friendly, and violent incidents are not uncommon.
Smoking bans are generally not respected.
