For many Dutch people, the Elfstedentocht is synonymous with the legendary ice skating race through the eleven towns of Friesland, an event that has become rare due to global warming. By contrast, the cycling version of the Elfstedentocht is a great alternative for sports and nature enthusiasts. This very popular bicycle tour follows the same historic route through eleven Frisian towns. The event attracts 15,000 participants.
