Practical information : Going out Kerala
Timetable
Kerala is not really a destination for night owls... Apart from the hotel bars, you will find very few bars. The shows for tourists usually end before 11 pm. Only the local traditional performances, temple festivities, Kathakali or Theyyam, can go on until the end of the night.
To be booked
Tickets for performances (theater, dance, music) do not need to be purchased in advance.
Night transport
Cabs are the safest and most convenient way to get around. Even with the nightly surcharge, the rates are still very reasonable.
Age restrictions
Please note that in Kerala, the legal age for buying and consuming alcohol is 23. Access to bars and pubs is theoretically forbidden to young people under the legal drinking age. In reality, however, some establishments, particularly in seaside resorts, don't take this to heart and serve alcohol to young tourists.
What's very local
A Dry Day is a day on which the sale of alcohol (liquor, beer) is prohibited in an entire state, or even in the whole country, although consumption is permitted in the private sphere. These days are generally national or local holidays, religious festivals or election days. The following are national Dry Days: January 26 (Republic's Day), January 30 (Martyr's Day), August 15 (Independence Day).
