This festival celebrating the rice harvest takes place mainly in rural areas, with a strong Tamil presence.
The rice harvest celebration is usually celebrated with the family at home for four days. Homes are cleaned from top to bottom, women draw kolams on their doorsteps, and cows are painted and garlanded. On the first day, rice is cooked with cane sugar and turmeric in a large pot until it boils and overflows. Throughout the country, adults and children challenge each other with their kites. It is celebrated especially in rural areas with a strong Tamil presence.
