Close to the border with Germany, the Bas-Rhin has a culture and architecture that mixes Latin and Germanic influences. Strasbourg is the capital of Santa Claus! You can visit the emblem of the city, the sumptuous Gothic cathedral Notre-Dame, with its lace-like decoration, offers daily animations around its astronomical clock. The Bas-Rhin offers an extraordinary range of discoveries, as much on the architectural, historical and religious level as on the gastronomic and traditional level. The Romanesque road, the brewing heritage, the typical Alsatian villages, the castles such as the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, the Fleckenstein castle or the Lichtenberg castle, the famous wine road, the forests of the Northern Vosges. A destination that counts among many remarkable sites. You can also visit on both sides of the Rhine, the Alsatian vineyards, the mountains and the lakes, charming towns and villages while enjoying a great diversity of landscapes.
When to go to the Bas-Rhin ? Well, all year long, the Bas-Rhin will welcome you! Between the wine road and its cellars, to discover the Alsatian vineyards, the Christmas markets are part of the traditions of Alsace and appear at the same time as the beginning of Advent with its legendary crown. Don't hesitate to stroll through Strasbourg and its surrounding villages to discover the magic of Christmas. The rest of the year, you can visit the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg or the Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder. There is always something to do in the Bas-Rhin.
The climate of the Bas-Rhin is generally semi-continental. It produces significant differences between winter and summer, but is marked by a low average temperature, around 10°C.
