The best address of the city.
Once Dépassé, the road extends to the heart of a high valley, surrounded by hills and hills before descending towards Oroumiye (Ourmia), a salt lake as large as an inland sea, located at 1 300 m above sea level. Its surface area is extremely variable from season to season depending on the level of rainfall, between 4 000 km ² and 6 000 km ². Also note, its low depth, less than 16 m.
Along the turquoise lake, the long sandy beaches are lined with salt plates. Only caveat, the persistent smell of sulfur. The exceptional degree of salinity of water, sometimes reaching 30%, limits considerably all marine and plant life. On the other hand, its curative virtues have attracted several small thermal sludge stations. A hundred small islands are also scattered over the vast lake area. Hulagu Khan, Iran's first Mongolian sovereign (1251-1265), ending the caliphate of Baghdad, and Genghis Khan's grandson, was buried on one of them.
