A day of silence and meditation to mark the Balinese New Year in Bali. The following day, a curfew is in place.
This is the Balinese (actually Hindu) New Year and the main festival. The day after the ceremony, a strict curfew is imposed throughout the island; no planes, buses, cars or boats are allowed to circulate, not even pedestrians, except for Muslims if the celebration falls on a Friday. It's also forbidden to make noise, use electricity or lights, or listen to music. Time for meditation, and even fasting for some. If you come a few days before, you can attend the purification ritual.
