Gulf Air is the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain and has just celebrated its 70th anniversary. It was one of the first airlines in the Middle East. As early as the 1950s, it linked Bahrain to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and even the oasis of Al Ain. In 1974, the emirate of Abu Dhabi owned 25% of Gulf Air on an equal footing with Oman, Qatar and Bahrain and withdrew in 2005. It serves 49 cities in more than 27 countries, including France and the United Arab Emirates. The airline is the official sponsor of the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix.
