Announced in February 2016, the Year of Reading, this extraordinary library opened its doors to the public in June 2022. The building is shaped like a traditional lectern, used to house the Quran, reflecting its function, a library that preserves rare works, both ancient and contemporary. The enormous building is spectacular and majestic. It transforms this new neighborhood, until then a small shipyard, into a district dedicated to education and culture. Inside, lovers of literature and beautiful books will find their happiness.
More than 4.5 million books are divided between the main library and the specialized libraries (youth, family, Arabic, international, arts, business...). There is also a study room, an exhibition space that houses exceptional old books, an auditorium, a conservation center and a preservation space for the Al Maktoum book collection. In addition, this project aims to support the Arabic identity and language. Be sure to check out the website as not a week goes by without an interesting event being held. The month of March, dedicated to reading, is the object of daily events.
