ALSERKAL AVENUE
Epicenter of artistic life, this cultural district allows you to discover avant-garde art galleries!
Inspired by places like Shoreditch in London and the Meatpacking District in New York, businessman, collector and patron Abdelmonem bin Eisa Alserkal came up with the idea of turning vacant warehouses in Al Qhoz into art galleries. Launched in 2007 in the Al Quoz industrial area in the west of the city, Alserkal has quickly become the epicenter of artistic life in the Emirates and a veritable reservoir of innovative talent discovered by young, forward-thinking galleries. The warehouses, housed in a former marble factory, have been converted into immaculate art spaces with state-of-the-art design. The Avenue has recently doubled in size and now features nearly thirty galleries showcasing the best of contemporary art from the region and beyond, artists' and designers' studios, trendy cafes and restaurants, an independent cinema, performance spaces, and a brand new building capable of hosting any type of exhibition thanks to its movable walls, Concrète, which means concrete, designed by Reem Koolhaas. This dynamic artistic platform encourages exchange, collaboration and sharing and hosts numerous events, conferences and workshops. Dubai, the crossroads of East and West, is becoming a major cultural and artistic hub, led by the annual Alserkal Art Week celebrated every March, a contemporary art event not to be missed.
