FORT AL-FAHIDI
A historic fort of traditional architecture built in 1787 to protect the town from foreign invasion.
While waiting for its reopening, one can admire from the outside the historical fort of Dubai erected between the souk Al Kabir and the district of Al Fahidi. Built in 1787 to protect the city from foreign invasions, it is a magnificent example of the traditional architecture of defensive buildings in the region. The wall made of corals, sponges and shells can be seen not far from the main gate. Outside the fort stands a magnificent Dhow, a boat used for pearl fishing. Later, the fort was used as an arsenal and a prison. It was opened to the public in 1971.
