In the villages of the Akwapim mountain range (Volta Region) the belief in an afterlife is celebrated in September-October.
It is held in September and October in the southeast of the country (Akwapim chain). It is a period of gratitude to the gods and an opportunity for the people to renew their family and social traditions. It symbolizes the belief in an afterlife. The rite is performed amidst drummers and dancers and is accompanied by a procession of traditional chiefs in ceremonial dress. As for the Queen Mother, they are carried in palanquins led by warriors and are sheltered under parasols.
