A simple and accessible family celebration for those who love traditions and pretty lights in the middle of the night.
The Tyroleans think big. On St. John's Day, the Johannisfeuer or Sonnwendfeuer are lit on the mountain tops to celebrate the summer solstice! This is the occasion for impressive illuminations and sophisticated light shows in a natural setting. Some mountains are particularly popular for these illuminations, those of the Wilder Kaiser Gebirge, the Biberwier, or the Lermoos for example. The illuminations in Innsbruck are also unmissable. In 2010, Unesco declared the St. John's Day celebrations to be part of the world's intangible heritage
