Day 1: Arrival in Zagreb (Croatia)

Steps: Zagreb, Kaptol

Rent a car at the airport, and hit the road the next morning. If you haven't arrived too late, take the opportunity to visit the center of the capital. Its old quarters, Gradec and Kaptol, its historic side-alleys, squares, parks and museums, with lunch breaks in the pedestrian streets where bars and restaurants abound. Overnight in Zagreb.

Day 2: En route to Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Trieste (Italy)

Steps: Trieste

A panoramic tour of the historic center of the Slovenian capital, then on toItaly, where a stopover in Trieste is a must! The Austro-Mediterranean atmosphere of the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia has charmed many a travel writer. Make your way to the Piazza dell'Unità, along the Canal Grande. Don't miss the Habsburg castle of Miramare. Overnight in Trieste.

Day 3: Arrival on the Slovenian coast

Steps: Koper, Izola, Piran

Early departure for the Italian-Slovenian border. Stop in Koper and Izola, two picturesque old ports of Mediterranean Slovenia. Late lunch in Piran on the Italian-style Tartini square. Visit of the historical center, stroll along the harbor, along the beautiful riva, climb to the church of St. George, flanked by an imposing campanile. Night in Piran.

Day 4: Pula, the ancient city

Steps: Pula, Pula

Early departure for the CroatianIstria. One goes along the west coast to join directly the chief town of region. Pula deserves a few days! Visit of the historical center, of its monuments of the Roman Antiquity, with the triumphal arch, the amphitheatre, the temple of Augustus, the museums, the churches and the famous forum, where one can rest in terrace all the year. Night in Pula.

Day 5: Islands National Park

Steps: Izola, Pula, Veliki Brijun

Early departure for the port of Fažana, to take the ferry and disembark on the island of Veli Brijuni, where Tito lived. Guided tour of the historical heritage, archaeological site and animal park. You can also opt for a mini-train tour, individual walks or bike rides, not forgetting a swim at the gates of an ancient Roman villa. All in all, a great day out! Overnight in Pula.

Day 6: Rovinj, the pearl of Istria

Steps: Rovinj

Early departure for Rovinj. The port with its polychrome houses, the narrow streets of the old town, its art galleries... pure pleasure for the eyes. A bike ride along the coast to the Zlatni Rat park forest, where you can enjoy a relaxing swim. In the evening, return to the historic center for the lively bars and restaurants by the sea. Overnight in Rovinj.

Day 7: The old town of Poreč and tour of Green Istria

Steps: Poreč, Motovun, Buzet

Morning departure for Poreč, with a stop for panoramic views of the Limski Fjord. In the historic city, don't miss a visit to the Euphrasian Basilica to admire its large Byzantine mosaics. In the afternoon, you can take the wine and gourmet route, discovering GreenIstria, its hilltop villages, Motovun, Grožnjan, Buzet, Pazin, Overnight in Poreč.

Day 8: Istria's east coast

Steps: Medulin, Labin, Premantura

Early departure for the east coast of Istria. Plan a nature break on the wild Premantura peninsula. Try to include a diving session in your program. For the night, stop off on the outskirts of the nature park, in a campsite (mobile home) or hotel in Medulin or Labin, an old town overlooking the sea.

Day 9: The Opatija Riviera

Steps: Agropoli, Opatija, Lovran, Volosko

Last stop, the Riviera ofOpatija, where one becomes nostalgic for the mundane tourism of the 19th century. Its palaces, its summer residences on the side of the cliff, its parks with luxuriant vegetation, its luxury stores. The Monaco of Croatia in short. To do on foot or by bike, the historical lungomare between Lovran and Opatija. Volosko has also kept all its charm. Night in Opatija.
